BILLERICAY TOWN boss Craig Edwards has slammed Cray Wanderers striker Moses Ashikodi for allegedly biting one of his players – a claim the Football Association are investigating.
The incident occurred during the Ryman Premier game at Billericay’s New Lodge last Saturday which the Wands won 2-1.
After the match Billericay claimed the former West Ham, Millwall and Watford man – who was released by the Lions for allegedly pulling a knife on teammate Mark McCammon – had bitten Geoff Mitchell.
Referee Dan Robathan didn’t see the incident so no action was taken against Ashikodi, although the official was shown the bite mark on Mitchell’s finger.
Edwards said: “The lad has bitten our forward. The referee has seen the bite mark and said he didn’t doubt it had happened but couldn’t act upon it because he hadn’t seen it himself.
“It was very poor but obviously you haven’t got the cameras to see it again like you did with the Luis Suarez incident.
“Cray have come to do a job and my issue is with how they’ve done that job. In the second half we counted eight players of theirs that went down at length before getting up. On a couple of occasions they even looked over and had a bit of a laugh about it.”
A spokesman for the FA confirmed: “We are aware of an incident during the Billericay Town and Cray Wanderers game and are investigating the matter.”
The Wands are relegated from the Ryman Premier following Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat to Kingstonian.
Cray chairman Gary Hillman said: “I spoke to my manager Keith Bird and we had a lot of facial injuries so it wasn’t the cleanest of games.
“I think people see little Cray Wanderers at the bottom of the table and expect to beat us but it’s a bit of sour grapes when they lose.”
Despite The NLP‘s best attempts, Moses Ashikodi could not be reached for comment.
