Scott Spencer Back Home At Stockport

HOME is where the heart is for Scott Spencer after the striker joined Stockport County.

Spencer has spent the past three seasons with Hyde, making more than a century of appearances and scoring more than 50 goals but, after a loan spell with FC Halifax at the end of last season, has dropped down a league to join County.

There’s more to it than the though, with Spencer looking forward to playing back in his part of the country.

The 25-year-old said: “I’m buzzing to have made the move. I’m a local lad and it has been a long time coming.

“I had a few offers from different clubs in different leagues, but the pull of big crowds and the fact that my family will be able to come and watch really made it appealing.

“Once I spoke to the gaffer, he just drew me in. It wasn’t that I was always going to go but after I had discussed it with him, I was happy.

“Stockport are a sleeping giant really. They shouldn’t be where they are and I believe in their philosophy and want to help them back to where they want to be.”

Spencer has been joined at Edgeley Park by goalkeeper Danny Hurst, who has made the move from .

Hurst has a wealth of experience having also played for Fleetwood and and his arrival will provide competition for Ian Ormson, while Spencer is looking to fill the void left by the retirement of last season’s topscorer Phil Jevons.

The new Hatter said: “I’ve got my own personal targets for next season that I’ve talked through with the manager and family so I’ll be happy if I hit them by the end of the season.

“If I can keep scoring goals and hit those targets that I want then, hopefully, we will be at the right end of the table.

“I’ve said some things about clubs when leaving that I regret, but I’m not doing that with Hyde. I wish the club all the best. It was tricky last year, but personally I didn’t do too badly.”

The arrival of Spencer will help heal Stockport wounds after ‘s Anthony Wilson decided to join Barrow, despite a deal being on the table to move to Edgeley Park.
