HAMPTON & RICHMOND have found a stella way to entice fans through their turnstiles tomorrow – luring them in with an offer of a free beer and chips!
The Beavers take on VCD Athletic at the Beveree on Saturday and the Ryman Premier game has been classified as a Pay What You Want match.
But Hampton have put a different spin on things and chairman Steve McPherson says those that decide to pay the usual £10 asking price will be given a reward – a cold Carling or a plate of chips on him!
McPherson said: “We were a little bit envious on Non-League Day, we were away to Dulwich Hamlet and because of their Pay What You Want promotion they managed to draw in a crowd of nearly 2,500.
“So we thought why not have a second one with another international break upon us this weekend?
“We’re a club where every penny counts so for those that do support us by paying the usual admission fee, they’ll have a big plate of chips or if they’re old enough, a beer on us! They’ll get a voucher on the turnstile and hopefully they’ll see a great game watched by a big crowd.”
Manager Alan Dowson has meanwhile warned changes are on the way unless league results pick up.
It’s two league defeats on the bounce for the Beavers, Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Tonbridge came straight after a 5-1 whitewash at home to Leatherhead.
Tuesday’s 2-1 League Cup win over Met Police boosted spirits but the manager had demanded more.
He said: “Tuesday was better but it is crystal clear now the size of the task in hand. We won’t shirk it – even if that means we have to rebuild a little.
“Saturday is a big day for the club. Hopefully we get a big crowd through the turnstiles, they see the team perform well and will want to return to watch us again in the future.”
