Struggling Marine part company with boss Carl Macauley

have parted company with manager Carl Macauley with the club staring down the barrel of NPL Premier relegation.

The ex- boss took over as Mariners manager last May after the club had narrowly avoided relegation to Step 4.

Macauley’s men have struggled this season, however, and currently sit 22nd in the league. Crucially they are 11 points adrift of safety with just 12 games left to play.

Defender Sean Hessey has taken over as caretaker manager and chairman Paul Leary said:  “I am very saddened at the departure of Carl Macauley tonight (Tuesday).

“The circumstances of our perilous league position however, with faint hopes of survival from relegation has ultimately resulted in the mutual decision made tonight by Dave and I with Carl for him to leave Marine.

“Against all the high expectations at the start of the season the situation we find ourselves in now has left us with no alternative but to make the changes that have been made. I thank Carl and his assistants Gary and Anthony for their efforts and I wish them well in the future.”
