SWINDON TOWN have been charged by the Football Association over the signing of striker Jermaine Hylton from Redditch United.
League One side Swindon signed the highly-rated forward from the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier outfit in January. He signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
However, the Reds complained to the FA over how Swindon went about their approach. Hylton had impressed for Birmingham City U21s before the Robins, managed by ex-Tamworth, Kettering, Darlington and AFC Telford boss Mark Cooper, swooped.
After several months of investigating by the game’s governing body, Swindon have been charged for not lodging the correct seven-day approach.
An FA statement read: “Breach of Rule C.2(a)(ii) – It is alleged that on or around 1 January 2015 Swindon Town FC approached a Player, Jermaine Hylton, without giving seven days’ formal written notice to Redditch United FC, the club to which he was registered.”
At the time of the move, Reds boss Liam McDonald said: “The chairman (Chris Swan) was in talks with other sides through the proper FA regulations and channels and a certain club, we believe, hasn’t gone through that procedure.
“Jermaine showed a lot of loyalty to Redditch and I don’t want this situation to overshadow the fact that we’re delighted that we’ve moved another player into the Football League.”
