GRESLEY boss Wayne Thornhill has decided to step down despite being asked to change his mind by chairman Barry North.
The Moatmen had enjoyed a mixed start to the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South season after reaching the play-offs last term.
Thornhill quit after Saturday’s home defeat to Shaw Lane Aquaforce with Dave Langston taking caretaker charge. The club won their first home game of the season on Tuesday as they defeated Chasetown 2-1.
Gresley chairman Barry North said: “To set the record straight Wayne Thornhill as not been sacked as speculated in the media.
“Wayne Thornhill informed me yesterday after a lot of soul searching he was resigning as manager of Gresley FC. I asked him if he was sure and to give it more thought. Last night Wayne confirmed his decision to resign.
“Personally I am gutted. Wayne and myself have had a great working relationship and I will miss him at the club. I wish him all the best for the future.
“We will be advertising for a new manager after the next board meeting. In the interim period Dave Langston has kindly offered to run the team as caretaker manager with Jamie Barrett.”
