HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE boss Lee Bradbury has revealed the Hawks have put in a £10,000 bid for striker Justin Bennett of rivals Gosport Borough.
Bradbury wants to bring Bennett, 33, to Westleigh Park to team up with former Gosport forward Matt Paterson who Borough bid £7,500 for last week in an attempt to take him back to Privett Park.
Bennett already has 11 goals this season and is the Vanarama National League South top scorer following his haul of 34 last term.
Boss Bradbury says the bid wasn’t made merely in retaliation to Gosport’s offer for Paterson, with the club adding they have used their FA Cup winnings to fund the offer.
“It’s a no brainer for me to want somebody of Justin’s goal scoring record who lives local to the club,” the manager said.
