He said: “All good things come to an end. And my intimate relationship with football is about to do that. But I have been lucky; very lucky.

“Football is a disease, an incurable one, with which I was infected at birth, but it is now time to make memories of a different kind.”

The departing general manager added: “After giving notice of my intention to retire immediately after this year’s AGM, the ovation club delegates gave me at the pre-season meeting was humbling. Thank you for all the help and support I have received in return.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis at Conference meetings while I was on the Board at Blyth Spartans. Dennis was always helpful, a great listener, and a lovely man. I wish him all the best in his retirement and I hope to meet up with him again at a non-league match in the near future.
    Enjoy it Dennis.
