Ian Cox and Wayne Wilson handed the reins at Whitstable Town

FORMER , Burnley and Gillingham defender Ian Cox has taken over as joint-boss alongside Wayne Wilson.

Cox, also a former Trinidad & Tobago international, has left his role as first team coach at to join the Oystermen, who are struggling at the bottom of Ryman South.

Ex-Stevenage and midfielder Wilson joins him at Whitstable, leaving where he was serving as captain.

The duo beat stiff competition to get the job and will now be looking to get results as quickly as possible with the club already 11 points adrift of safety.

Chairman Gary Johnson said: “The three shortlisted candidates each in turn illustrated desire and passion. It really was a close run case in the appointment of Wilson and Cox but the board voted unanimously to make their third managerial appointment of the season.

“Congratulations to Wayne and Ian on their appointment. We believe they have the character, knowledge and the necessary contacts. They have already highlighted immediate targets to join the Oystermen and if they pull these signings off then there is no reason why the Town cannot rise at last this season.”
