Tooting & Mitcham United removed from Ryman League Cup

have been removed from the Ryman League’s Alan Turvey Trophy for fielding an ineligible player.

The Ryman South side were scheduled to face in the quarter-finals of the League Cup competition but that now won’t be the case.

The Terrors were found guilty of playing Chase O’Neil, who had earlier played in the competition for Staines Town, against -Casuals in the last round on December 8.

The club waives its right to appeal and have subsequently been reinstated and will face Sittingbourne on Tuesday.

A Tooting & Mitcham statement read: “We regret to advise that the club has been informed by the Ryman League that in our Alan Turvey Trophy third round tie against Corinthian-Casuals, played on 8th December, we fielded a loanee player who had played in this competition in a first round tie for his parent club earlier in the season.

“Under the circumstances, the Ryman Football League have had no option other than to remove Tooting & Mitcham United from this season’s competition and allow Corinthian-Casuals to take up their place in Quarter Final.

“The club has apologised to the Ryman Football League for this oversight and extends that apology to all of its supporters and those associated with the club as we understand the frustration and great disappointment this will cause.”
