Witham Town part company with manager Garry Kimble

ADAM FLINT will take charge of Ryman North side for the rest of the season after the club parted company with manager Garry Kimble.

Kimble left on Sunday after the 1-1 home draw against fellow strugglers left them just three places and three points above the relegation zone.

The former Doncaster, Gillingham, Peterborough and defender had been in charge of Town for almost five years and led the club to the  title.

Another promotion, to the Ryman Premier, followed in 2013-14 after a play-off final victory over but Kimble’s side lasted just a single season at Step 3.

The boss was forced to rebuild his squad in the summer following relegation but they have struggled so far this term and Saturday’s draw meant they had won just two of their last 18 games in all competitions.

Chairman Mark Nicholls told the club website: “Witham Town FC and first team manager Garry Kimble have parted company. The board felt that the first team had been taken as far as it could under the present management.

“The board would like to thank Garry for all the hard work and effort that he has put in over the years at the club. We would like to wish him all the best for the future.”

Kimble will be replaced by caretaker manager Flint, who previously served as Witham’s assistant when the club were in the Essex Senior League.

He added: “When an opportunity like this comes along you do not say no, it’s a bold move by the club. Garry will be a hard act to follow and I know how important it is for the club stay in the Ryman League.”
