REDDITCH UNITED have announced the launch of their very own full-time academy that will be based at the club’s Valley Stadium home.
The Redditch United Football Academy will run in partnership with Bourneville College and will see boys and girls study for a one or two-year BTEC qualification alongside football sessions with leading coaches. Students will be based at the club with lectures taking place in new teaching facilities.
The Southern Premier Reds hope the academy side will go on to compete in regional and national competitions and an open evening on Thursday, March 17 will allow potential students and their parents the chance to find out more.
Redditch United chairman Chris Swan said: “These are exciting times for Redditch United as we embark on a new chapter in our 125-year history.
“The Redditch United Football Academy is a major step forward for the club and the community it serves. Working with our partners at Bournville College we will be able to provide exceptional academic and sporting facilities allowing students either to continue into higher education or into full-time football – following in the footsteps of six of our players who made that step last season.
“I would urge anyone interested in finding out about these exciting opportunities to come along on March 17 when they will be able to meet the course leaders and ask any questions they may have.”
David Faulkner, who serves as programme area leader at Bournville College, added: “We are delighted that the new partnership with RUFC will deliver football training and sport qualifications under one roof at RUFC’s Valley Stadium.
“Players will be able to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching delivered at Bournville College or advance onto the Redditch United senior team, so the prospects are great either way.”
