JOHN WEBB has taken over as chairman of National League South side Margate after Bob Laslett confirmed he was standing down.
Laslett, 69, made his multi-million pound fortune through global project management consultants Chaucer before taking over Margate in December 2013.
He has pumped millions into the Kent club since then and their hefty budget led to promotion through the Ryman Premier play-offs last season.
The Gate have lost their last five league games and following weeks of speculation, the club have confirmed Laslett’s resignation as chairman.
It’s unknown if he will leave Hartsdown Park altogether after the former Wolves director was linked with buying the Molineux outfit.
A Margate statement read: “Margate Football Club director John Webb has taken over as chairman of MFC as Bob Laslett has decided to pass the baton onto a younger person.
“John has been very much involved in the club for past two years, especially with the youth section. He is the ideal person to take on the role of chairman and take the club forward.
“Ivan Laslett has also decided to step down in favour of someone younger. Chris Pope will take over the role of vice-chairman whilst continuing as chief executive.
“John and Chris, who between them have many years’ experience in business and football management, will make an excellent team to lead the club positively forward and realise further success.”
