GOOLE AFC are hoping to raise £5,000 for goalkeeper Jack Wheat who has been told he will never play football again after a horrific collision in a match.
Wheat was making his Vikings debut when he suffered serious facial injuries just 17 minutes into the Evo-Stik NPL South game against Market Drayton Town on Saturday, March 12.
The former Armthorpe Welfare, Parkgate and Retford Town stopper, 23, was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with a fractured skull, fractured eye socket, broken jaw and a compressed cheekbone.
The surgeon said it was one of the worse facial fractures they had seen, with Wheat being in surgery for over four hours, temporarily wiring his jaw and putting plates in his face on March 22.
Due to the severity of his injuries, the keeper is likely to be unable to work for a considerable length of time and has been told he will be unable to play football again.
That has prompted the Vikings to start a Crowdfunder appeal and secretary Dave Oldridge said: “We are aiming to raise £5,000 in just 30 days to help support Jack over the coming months during his period of rehabilitation.”
