Crowborough to turn to 3G after local family’s investment

will join the ever growing list of clubs turning to 3G pitches after securing investment from a “local entrepreneurial family”.

The side confirmed the investment has come from a family who have children playing for the club at youth level.

They are keen to put something back into the club and community and their money will be used to invest in a new 3G playing surface at the Crowborough Community Stadium.

Initial discussions have taken place between the club, its partners and the relevant bodies and it’s expected the new pitch will be laid by the summer of 2017.

Crowborough chairman Tony Bowen said: “This is an incredible opportunity to secure a sporting venue for the town which will be a lasting legacy for the people of Crowborough and the surrounding area for generations to come.

“The generosity of the family will allow Crowborough to become a centre of sporting excellence with an opportunity for the many not just the few.”

A club statement added: “Crowborough Athletic FC is pleased to announce that it has secured investment to develop the Crowborough Community Stadium to include a 3G playing surface and additional infrastructure.

“The investment has come from a local entrepreneurial family who have children playing at youth level within the club and are keen to “put something back” into the community they have come to know and love so well.

“The club will be run as a commercial enterprise to ensure that good governance is in place and that the family secures a return on their investment in future years.”
