NORTHWICH MANCHESTER VILLA have resigned from the North West Counties League with immediate effect.
The club, formed in 2005, played their last game on April 30 – a 5-0 home defeat to Rochdale Town in front of 27 spectators – and finished 15th in the NWCL Division One.
However, they will not be playing at Step 6 next season after the league confirmed they accepted the club’s resignation.
Starting life as Woodley in the Cheshire Football League, they renamed themselves Northwich Villa after entering into a partnership to act as Northwich Victoria‘s feeder team.
The club won promotion to the Cheshire League Division One in 2005-06 before winning that league in 2008-09. After finishing ninth in 2010-11, the club’s application to join the NWCL Division One was accepted.
Following a relocation to Flixton, the club once again changed its name to Northwich Flixton Villa in 2013 and in the summer of 2015 they became Northwich Manchester Villa after moving to the Manchester Regional Arena.
A NWCL statement read: “The North West Counties Football League management committee has today (May 11) received notification from Northwich Manchester Villa of their resignation from the competition with immediate effect.
“The resignation has been accepted by the League’s emergency committee.”
