NEW Bangor City chairman Ivor Jenkins says his consortium will pump a “six-figure sum” into the club every year as they try to end The New Saints’ dominance in the Welsh Premier League.

The Cheshire-based group have been announced as Bangor’s new owners with Jenkins – who headed the consortium – replacing Dilwyn Jones as chairman.

Joining Jenkins will be new president Gordon Craig, finance director Andy Ewing, commercial director James Lees and director and club accountant Andy Haslam.

At a press conference announcing the deal, former and City owner Stephen Vaughan was present and announced himself as Bangor’s new shirt sponsor, although Jenkins has denied he will have any involvement in the running of the club.

Vaughan – who became the first owner to fail the Association’s fit and proper person test – remains banned from being a director of any company until 2020 after a ‘VAT carousel fraud’ while he was a director of Rugby League club Vikings.

The New Saints have won the Welsh Premier five years in a row with Bangor last claiming the title in 2010-11 and Jenkins wants the Citizens to be pushing for honours again.

He told the club’s website: “I’ve had an affinity with north Wales for the last 20 years, both working and with a lot of friends in the area.

“I’m honoured to become chairman of such a big name in Welsh football and we will pledge a six-figure sum annually in return for shares in Bangor City FC.

“We came along and saw the stadium and the spirit the club has got. We met with a couple of the committee members and they thought they had taken the club as far as they could.

“We’re now going to try and take it that step further. We’ll be looking at funding the football manager enabling him to get better players and look at finishing the stadium.

“Our ultimate aim is to challenge the leading clubs over the coming seasons for the Welsh Premier League title and UEFA Champions League football.”
