skipper Alex Woodyard has followed his former boss Danny Cowley to Lincoln City and become the Imps’ first signing of the summer.

The 23-year-old was a key part of the side that narrowly missed out on a place in the promotion final but he has now moved on and into full-time .

The impressive midfielder, who started his career at Charlton and Southend before moving into , was signed by Cowley for in the summer 2014.

After Cowley moved up to take over at Braintree, Woodyard followed and the duo will now team up again at Sincil Bank.

Woodyard, of course, won the Sportsbeat Young Player of the Year award at our recent and told the Imps’ website: “I’m really excited to sign on the dotted line and I can’t wait to get started with Lincoln City.

“I’ve been with Danny and Nicky (Cowley, assistant) for the past two seasons now and it’ll be great to work under them now at a full-time club.

“Last year was brilliant. We overachieved at Braintree, it was a real underdog story and to become England C captain was great for me.

“Danny, Nicky and myself all want to come here and get this club back where it should be and that’s the Football League.”

Boss Cowley added: “This is a brilliant signing for the football club. Alex had over ten clubs interested in him and offering him deals so for him to come here says everything about Lincoln City.

“He’s had a great couple of years and he fits the profile we’re trying to bring to the club; young, hungry, ambitious and a player that’s on an upwards curve.”
