ANDY BISHOP has added two new faces to his Southport squad ahead of Saturday’s National League opener at Dagenham & Redbridge.
The Sandgrounders’ boss has been hard at work this week finalising his squad before the trip to the league newcomers this weekend. His latest signings are winger James Caton and young defender Joe Kearns.
Caton, 22, who was released by Shrewsbury Town in May, made four appearances for Southport during a loan spell at the start of 2015.
The winger spent the second half of last season at National League rivals Lincoln City and returns to Southport after just failing to win a deal with the Imps this summer.
Defender Kearns, 20, is a former Crewe Alexandra U18 captain but he was released by the Railwaymen in the summer without making a first team appearance.
Those two signings follow the additions of defenders Chris Doyle from Morecambe and Bury’s Keil O’Brien after both impressed Bishop while on trial.
