New manager Gary Abbott chosen to lead Fisher FC’s return home

FC have turned to Gary Abbott as their new manager as the fan-owned club gear up for life back in Rotherhithe.

As a player, Abbott was known as one of the most lethal finishers in , banging in the goals for , Aldershot and .

He also earned England semi-pro honours before moving into management with Fisher Athletic, and , also serving as assistant at a number of other clubs.

Abbott is now back in the dugout with Fisher, formed from the ashes of Fisher Athletic who were wound-up in 2009, as the club enter an exciting period.

The outfit are now back home and will kick off the new campaign in their new St Paul’s Stadium, which is situated just over the road from Fisher Athletic’s old Surrey Docks Stadium.

Abbott brings with him highly regarded coach Isa Hussain who has worked at Queens Park Rangers in a technical coaching role.

The returning boss, who replaces Dean Harrison, said: “It’s an honour to be back at Fisher. This is a great club and now Fisher are back home in Rotherhithe I can see the potential.

“There’s a great bunch of players here with the right attitude and I’m looking forward to working with them to bring out their best.”

Chairman Ben Westmancott added: “The advert for the vacancy yielded a remarkably strong field of candidates and we had to turn down a number applicants who were clearly appointable.

“After deliberations, the panel was unanimous in its decision and we are delighted that someone of such high calibre has accepted the role.

“Abbott has the passion desire to help us grow the club and shares our vision to build in a sustainable way. We are looking forward to a season of competitive and exciting football.”
