SOUTHPORT are yet again searching for a new manager following the departure of boss Andy Bishop after Saturday’s defeat to Dover Athletic.
The veteran former York, Bury and Wrexham striker, 33, was named as the permanent successor to Dino Maamria in April after an impressive spell in caretaker charge.
The Sandgrounders ended up finishing a comfortable 16th last term but have won just one of their opening eight National League games this season.
Tellingly, Bishop’s side had scored just five times in those eight fixtures and he named himself in the starting line-up against Dover but the Port still went down 1-0.
The rookie boss looked at the positives following the game, saying: “The second half performance was very good, the only problem was not getting the goal. When the goals come, we’ll start winning games.”
However, later on Saturday evening, Southport announced that they had parted company with their manager and they now search for their ninth boss since April 2013.
A club statement read: “It is with regret Southport Football Club have parted company with manager Andy Bishop. The club are actively seeking applications for the post.
“The club would like to thank Andy for his hard work and dedication during his time as manager.”
