FORMER Corby Town boss Tommy Wright feels he can still offer something on the pitch after joining Nuneaton Town as player-coach.
Wright, 32, left the Steelmen following Saturday’s defeat to Ilkeston in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier, a result that left them bottom of the table.
He joined Corby in September 2013 and in his first season in sole charge, led the club to the Southern Premier title before suffering relegation straight back to Step 3 last term.
The former Leicester, Barnsley and Darlington striker didn’t have to wait long for a return to football, joining up with Nuneaton.
Wright, who also looked after Corby’s academy side, will bolster Boro boss Kevin Wilson’s attacking options as well as aiding the development of the youth team along with Steve Chettle and Guy Branston.
Wright said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity. It was a big disappointment to leave Corby, however I’ve known the gaffer and Lee (Thorn, chairman) for a long time and it was great when they phoned me up.
“I haven’t played much recently, hopefully I can get fit and try to get some minutes under my belt, at 32 I still feel I can offer something.
“I also want to help off the field, providing the younger lads with experience, aid the attackers and work with the youth team alongside Guy and Chetts and help to develop them.”
Boss Wilson added: “I’m pleased to have him on board. He’ll add experience to the management and the playing group. Once he has gained some match fitness, he’ll be a good addition to the squad.
“Tommy had a good start to his management career and hopefully whilst he’s here with myself, Chets and Guy, he can continue to develop.”
