CHRIS BURNS has quit as joint-manager of Evo-Stik League Southern Premier strugglers Cinderford Town after Tuesday night’s derby defeat to Cirencester.
The 2-0 home reverse left the Foresters bottom of the table with just seven points from their opening 16 league fixtures.
Burns took charge of the club alongside Allan Gough in the summer after manage John Brough left for North Leigh following Cinderford’s attempts to avoid promotion to the Southern Premier.
With all of last season’s Southern South & West title winners also departing, Burns and Gough were forced to recruit a whole new squad.
It’s been a tough start to the Step 3 season for the club and Burns, the former Gloucester City and Bishops Cleeve boss, quit after Tuesday night’s defeat.
A club statement read: “We can confirm following our defeat vs Cirencester this evening that manager Chris Burns has resigned.
“We would like to thank Chris for his efforts and determination to get a squad together and compete this season after all of last season’s squad left,
“He built a squad from scratch in one month and sadly it didn’t work out, but he will always be a fans’ favourite.”
