WESSEX LEAGUE side Alton have announced Mark Corbett as their new manager – but they’ll have to wait until next season for him to take over.
The club have turned to Corbett, a former Alton Town player and youth team manager, to replace Michael Charles who resigned earlier this month.
However, the Hampshire outfit have confirmed that Corbett won’t be taking the reins until next season due to his present commitments, including studying for his UEFA A Licence.
Corbett also works for League Two side Portsmouth, coaching their academy and scholars, and Alton believe the Farnham Town striker and ex-Walton & Hersham coach will be worth the wait.
Club stalwart Clive Ventham will take charge of the Wessex League Division One side for the rest of the season and he will be assisted by Sean Hayes.
A club statement read: “We are pleased to announce that Mark Corbett has been appointed manager of our first team.
“Because of current commitments, including studying for his UEFA A coaching licence, Mark will not take up this position until next season.
“Mark is a full-time football coach employed by Portsmouth FC – in charge of their academy and scholars. He is also an ex-Alton Town player and youth team manager.
“In the meantime, Clive Ventham, assisted by Sean Hayes, will manage the team. We very much welcome Mark while giving Clive and Sean every support for the rest of the season.”
