Ex-Gosport Borough player Danny Thompson hoping to take over cash-strapped club

CASH-STRAPPED South outfit are in talks with a local consortium as a takeover of the club moves closer.

The Hampshire club were recently served their second winding-up petition in two months by HM Revenue & Customs although chairman Mark Hook says the bill has already been settled.

There has been speculation regarding a possible takeover at Privett Park in recent months and ex-Gosport player and local businessman Danny Thompson has expressed his interest in taking over.

Thompson says he has “the club at heart” and added that preliminary discussions have already been held with Borough chairman Hook.

“The wheels are in motion and hopefully in the next few weeks we can get it all sorted and take the club forward,” Thompson told BBC Radio Solent.

“We’re trying to get a group of people together and local businessman back involved. Some have been involved in the past, so I’m working hard to get them back. We have the club at heart and we’re trying our best to get things moving forward.”
