FOREST GREEN ROVERS boss Mark Cooper narrowly beat the National League registration deadline to bolster his defence with the addition of Wrexham‘s Curtis Tilt.
Tuesday night’s victory against Solihull Moors saw Rovers climb to the top of the table and they strengthened further on Thursday with the loan signing of Tilt.
The central defender has had an impressive debut season with Wrexham following his move from AFC Telford United in the summer, playing in 36 straight league games.
However, with Wrexham boss Dean Keates under the impression that Tilt wouldn’t be signing a new deal with the Dragons, he has been allowed to leave the club for the remaining eight games of the season.
If international clearance is received in time by Forest Green, Tilt will be available for Saturday’s crunch game against title rivals Lincoln City.
Wrexham boss Keates told the club’s website: “I know Mark Cooper and he rang me to see if a deal was possible.
“Having spoken with Curtis and his advisers, it doesn’t seem that he will staying with us next season anyway. Financially we save on wages for a few months, which we can also be put towards next season’s budget.
“In addition, it is an opportunity for the likes of Olly Marx to play a number of games in the coming weeks, ready for stepping up to the first team squad for next season.”
Rovers have, meanwhile, have allowed young midfielder Louis McGrory to join Gloucester City on loan until the end of the season.
