WREXHAM‘S Player of the Year Martin Riley and skipper Rob Evans are among the nine players boss Dean Keates has decided to release.
Centre-back Riley returned to north Wales for his second spell at the Racecourse last summer and was a key player at the heart of the Dragons’ defence.
Despite being named the club’s Player of the Year as they finished 13th in the National League, he has not been offered a new deal by Keates.
Midfielder Evans, who was made Wrexham captain in November, will leave his hometown club after no new deal was forthcoming and top scorer Jordan White has also departed.
Keeper Shwan Jalal, midfielder Anthony Barry, wingers Iffy Allen and Callum Powell and forwards Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls and Izale McLeod are the others that Keates has released.
Defenders Curtis Tilt and Hamza Bencherif and attacking midfielder John Rooney, all out on loan at National League rivals, have indicated they will not be returning to the Racecourse.
Mark Carrington and Paul Rutherford have, meanwhile, signed new deals while keeper Chris Dunn and experienced midfielder Russell Penn have also been offered fresh terms.
Keate is also hoping to talk to left-back James Jennings about extending his stay following his loan spell from League Two outfit Cheltenham Town.
A club statement read: “To the players leaving, we also offer our thanks for their service this season and in previous years. We hope all are quickly fixed up with new clubs and that our paths cross again.
“With the youth team having one more league match to play, at home to Bury next Saturday morning, details concerning the scholars will be held over until the start of next week.
“We can though confirm that Olly Marx has joined Leo Smith in being offered a professional deal for 2017-18, after playing in seven of the last eight games this season.”
