National League fine Solihull Moors after postponed Chester match

Solihull Moors have been fined £4,000 and ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation fees to fellow National League side Chester following the postponement of a fixture between the two sides.
The game was due to take place on 5 August, but was called off just 24 hours before kick-off amid safety concerns regarding Moors’ Damson Park home.
The ground, which was opened in 1999, has since been passed safe, with Liam McDonald’s men so far hosting Barrow and FC Halifax, but the National League have stepped in to fine Solihull for the opening day disappointment.
On the National League’s website, a statement said the club “were found to have caused the postponement by failing to demonstrate that safety systems were in place to the satisfaction of their Safety Advisory Group.”
After the game against Chester was postponed, McDonald expressed his disappointment, telling BBC Sport: “The club were only made aware of this issue by Solihull Council at 7:30pm last night before the postponement was enforced on us earlier today and we’ve been asked by the National League not to elaborate on the statement that has been issued.
“After an impressive pre-season, we were all hoping to carry that positive momentum into the new campaign and we all hope this issue will be resolved in the very near future.”
