We have the talent to bag a lot more goals, says Clarets boss Stringer

ROD STRINGER has called on his Chelmsford City side to show their ruthless streak in front of goal.
The Clarets lead the National League table after eight games and tonight travel to Hampton & Richmond Borough.
Stringer’s side has a different look to the one that reached the play-off final last season and led ten-man Ebbsfleet United before a late turnaround.
His new recruits have settled in well and the former Braintree and Bishop’s Stortford boss is pleased with their early showing.
But on Saturday they were left frustrated with a 0-0 draw against league new boys Bognor Regis Town – and Stringer says they need to be more clinical.
“With the amount of possession we had and the amount of crosses we got into the box, it was disappointing,” Stringer told The NLP.
“It’s trying to have that little bit more of a ruthless streak to make it happen. But I can’t fault the lads. We’ve had a decent start to the season, Saturday was one of those.
“We had some cleared off the line that would normally go in, we were pressing and pressing. Bognor are a very good footballing side but once we got to grips with that, for the best part of an hour, we didn’t stop knocking on the door. But if you don’t score goals, you don’t win games.”
Chelmsford have certainly kept the goals out with six clean sheets in their opening eight games.
And the boss has backed his side to get in the goals more often with their 11 goals for the fewest in the top ten.
“We aren’t conceding a lot, which is a sign of a good team,” Stringer, in his second season at the club, said. “We lost to St Albans and I felt we beat ourselves by making two bad mistakes. We got punished for both.
“Since then we’ve got back to what we’re good at. We’re good on the eye, I think we’ve found the right formula. Just Saturday I would have been happier if we’d put in some chances.
“When you’ve got people like Danny Green putting balls in the box you know really you should be getting on the end of these things. Hopefully we can put that right tonight.
“We’ve got some good strikers at the club. Chris Dickson scored 12 in 18 last year. Lee Barnard has made a living scoring goals – he’s been at the highest level.
“Kudos Oyenuga has had a good upbringing and played at a decent level up in Scotland. And I’ve got a lot of good midfielders who should chip in with a goal or two too.
“I just put Saturday down to being Saturday. It was a hot day and let’s see tonight if we can put it right.
“I always say if you lose a game it’s all about how you respond. Although we took a draw, Saturday felt like a defeat because really it was so one-sided for an hour. It was a defeat in a way. That just tells you what our expectation levels are.”
