There wasn’t the full slate of fixtures which adorned the Evo-Stik Premier last night, however there were six games filled with action and intrigue across both the Evo-Stik North and South divisions.
Firstly, let’s take a look at the Northern portions of the games, where Steve Kittrick’s Scarborough Athletic ensured bottom side Goole’s wait for a first away point of the season continued with a 4-1 win at Flamingo Land Stadium.
The Seadogs were 2-0 up heading into half-time thanks to goals from Matty Turnbull and Nathan Valentine, but were pegged back by Piteu Crouz’s strike two minutes before the interval.
And Scarborough had to wait until the 89th minute to extend their advantage, debutant Nathan Curtis grabbing the goal. They would add another a minute later through Michael Coulson to sew up the points. They’re now second in the table and just two points behind leaders South Shields.
Sixth place Ramsbottom United were on the wrong end of a 4-3 goalfest against Clitheroe, a 90th minute effort from Sam Heathcote not enough to salvage a draw for the Rams.
The visitors were 2-0 up after 16 minutes, courtesy of goals from Greg Daniels and Luke Thompson – but it wasn’t to last. Kurt Willoughby got Clitheroe level ten minutes later, and two goals in three second half minutes from Alexander Newby and Willoughby turned the game around for Simon Haworth’s men.
An 86th minute penalty completed Willoughby’s hat-trick and consigned Ramsbottom to defeat. The result sees Clitheroe move up to 13th.
The final game in the North last night saw mid-table Ossett Town and Mossley battle it out, with the hosts emerging victorious at Ingfield, thanks to Danny South’s late penalty.
Down South, Leek Town moved up to fourth with a commanding 3-0 win over Sheffield FC at Harrison Park. Second-half strikes from Timothy Grice and Daniel Trickett-Smith (twice) enough for the Blues to claim the points. Although the gap to league leaders Cleethorpes Town is already eight points, don’t write off a promotion charge from Neil Baker’s men yet.
Ninth place Chasetown completed a hard-fought 2-1 win against Corby Town at the Scholar’s Ground. Goals either side of half-time from William Whieldon and Muziwandile Nduna ensured that Sam Warbuton’s strike for the visitors was simply a consolation.
Market Drayton Town battled to a creditable 2-2 draw with Loughborough Dynamo at Greenfields Sports Ground last night, having fallen behind a minute into the game when Ashley Hodgkinson struck for Peter Ward’s side.
However, the hosts pulled themselves in front courtesy of strikes from Daniel Beddows and Glynn Coney, only for Josh Riley to earn a point for Loughborough nine minutes from time.
