Promotion ‘only aim’ this season for new York boss Martin Gray

New York City manager Martin Gray, brought in to replace the sacked Gary Mills yesterday, has spoken to the press today about his promotion ambitions.
Mills was dismissed on September 30 after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by eighth-tier South Shields, and it’s been left to Gray to try and fire seventh place York up the National League North table.
Gray resigned as Darlington manager to take up the post at Bootham Crescent, ending a five and a half year spell with the Quakers during which he enjoyed three separate promotion campaigns.
And the 46-year-old sees a similar future for his new side, telling the media: “This is the right club at the right time. It’s a Football League club and our job is to take this club back to the Football League.
“We have been given a great opportunity and we have only one aim this season which is to get promotion.
“We are looking to strengthen straight away and will be working very hard to get 1,2 or 3 players in for the weekend.”
Gray’s arrival came in conjunction with a new Sporting Director in Dave Penney, and his appointment was sealed by a ringing endorsement from former England manager Steve McClaren.
The new men in charge will attempt to get their feet wet at the first time of asking when they host Brackley this Saturday.
