What better way to warm the hearts of loyal Tuesday night supporters than to supply them with goals upon goals – something that Altrincham, Grantham Town and Warrington Town certainly did last night.
With neither Stourbridge or Farsley Celtic in action, there was a big opportunity for the aforementioned Robins and Yellows to climb the table, an opportunity they seized emphatically.
Paul Carden’s side moved up to second with a 5-1 win at home to Lancaster City, with the goals shared out equally. There was one apiece for James Barrigan, Liam Goulding, Sean Williams, Caleb Richards and Jamie McDonald for the hosts, with Oliver Wood’s Lancaster strike clearly a consolation.
Altrincham are a point further behind in fourth after their own 5-1 triumph against Nantwich Town at Moss Lane. A brace from Joshua Hancock led them to victory, aided by goals from Thomas Hannigan, Jordan Hulme and John Johnston – Tobias Mullarkey getting a late reply for the visitors.
Over in Lincolnshire, Grantham Town thumped struggling Rushall Olympic 7-1. Kalian Gould got Rushall’s only goal, but a hat-trick from Andrew Wright, together with efforts from Jordan Hempenstall, Oliver Luto (twice) and Michael Hollingsworth wrapped up the points for Adam Stevens’ men.
Shaw Lane remain three points clear at the summit after a 3-1 win at Mickleover Sports last night. The Ducks were two up within half an hour courtesy of a Damian Reeves double, with Pablo Mills getting one back for the hosts after 42 minutes. Chib Chilaka wrapped up the points for the league leaders with a second half strike.
Bottom side Halesowen Town claimed a creditable 1-1 draw at Barwell, while Workington beat Marine 2-1 at Borough Park. Elsewhere, Witton Albion were beaten 2-0 at Buxton and Stalybridge Celtic got an excellent 3-1 win against Whitby Town. And an Edjidja Mbunga brace gave Hednesford Town the win over Matlock Town.
