DARREN KELLY couldn’t be happier with Hyde United‘s home FA Cup first round proper draw with MK Dons – and he hopes TV bosses send down the live cameras.
The EVO-STIK NPL North club beat Scarborough Athletic at the weekend to reach this stage of the competition for the first time since 1994.
Their reward is a plum tie against the League One side – and it’s got the Tigers dreaming of a giantkilling.
“It’s fantastic for the club,” Kelly said. “Coming through five rounds to get into the first round proper and obviously then get a game against a League One side; the icing would be if we can get it on telly.
“Yes, it would give our players a shop window, but the other side of that is the financial aspect. At this level, to get that type of income from a game like that through the gates and the telly would be superb. It would be absolutely brilliant.
“It’s huge. I know the struggles that go on with this level. A good cup run is obviously important – you’re probably talking £40k from the rounds we’ve already done, which is huge.
“The possibility of getting a big gate at home and the possibility of getting on the telly would be huge – it would set us up for a couple of years.”
