MK Dons supporters raise money to help Hyde repair fire-damaged pitch

MK Dons supporters have been digging into their own pocket to assist in ‘s pitch repair costs after a flare damaged an area of the club’s 4G pitch before the start of their encounter last Friday.
The playing surface at Ewen Fields burst into flames after a Hyde supporter threw the flare on the artificial pitch and caused sufficient damage to lead referee to question whether the game would go ahead.
Though the game would be played and broadcast on TV, hefty repair fees could cut into Hyde’s income from the match and MK Dons supporters have taken the step of raising £1,000 for their cup opponents.
“The idea came about through a discussion on an unofficial MK Dons online forum,” said David Drysdale, the MK Dons fan who has set up a crowdfunding page.
“Another fan who had been to the Hyde game suggested our supporters come together and raise funds to contribute towards the costs of the pitch repair.
“We all agreed it was a fantastic idea to show support to a club and so I created the page.”
The impact of the incident could not have been more negatively impact on Hyde who stand to lose out on an occasion to celebrate.
A club statement released earlier this week confirmed: “The damage to the pitch has resulted in the closure of the facility, resulting in loss of revenue, and will require significant financial investment to rectify.
“We will be asking for the courts to fine the individuals for the damage and loss of revenue caused by their actions to a facility which cost £500,000.”
