Aldershot turn down Football League approach for manager Gary Waddock and assistant James Rowe

Gary Waddock says he’s “happy” that turned down an approach from a League club, who wanted to speak to him and his assistant James Rowe.
Chairman Shahid Azeem informed both of the approach and that the club had rejected the request.
Waddock returned to the Shots in May 2016 having originally won promotion to the Football League with the club eight years before.
The ‘Ginger Mourinho’ over-achieved last season by guiding Aldershot into the play-offs where they lost in the semi-finals to Tranmere Rovers and now they sit second, six points behind leaders Town.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do here and I’m happy that the Chairman turned it down,” said Waddock. “I’m the manager of Aldershot Town Football Club and I’m very proud of that fact. Shahid was very up front and honest with me – he said that the Club turned it down straight away.
“We’re all working hard to try to achieve something. We’re nicely positioned in the league table but we haven’t achieved anything yet.”
Chairman Azeem added: “We are delighted that Gary and James have again shown Aldershot Town such loyalty, and believe in what we are all trying to achieve here.
“This is not the first time that a Football League club has recognised their qualities, and it won’t be the last time, but we want to keep them at Aldershot Town for as long as possible.
“We are all on a journey at the moment, and there will probably be a few more ups and downs along the way, but we know that Gary and James are the right people to take the Club forward and make this a special period in our history.”
Meanwhile, Waddock has already been busy in the transfer market. Striker Nicke Kabamba has joined on loan from Portsmouth along with Colchester left-back Lewis Kinsella.
Lewis Ward, a goalkeeper from Reading, and defender George Fowler, from Ipswich, have extended their loans. Kodi Lyons-Foster has been released and Shaun Okojie has terminated his contract by mutual consent.
