Tring Athletic are preparing for the biggest game in their history when they visit Melksham Town for a 5th Round FA Vase cup tie on Saturday.
Over 600 clubs from around the country started out in the competition back in August and both clubs have made history by reaching the last 16 of this competition for the first time.
The prize for the winner is a place in the quarter finals when dreams of playing at the world’s most famous football stadium will become a little bit more of a reality.
Melksham are based in Wiltshire and sit third in the Toolstation Western League at Step 5, the same level as Tring, who compete in the Spartan South Midlands League.
In the last round they beat Crowborough Athletic 2-1 in front of crowd of 686 and are hoping to attract over 1000 at their superb Oakfields Stadium for the visit of Tring.
Athletic know they face a tough task and their mid-table league position would appear to make their hosts favourites.
But Chairman Howard Wells, who is no stranger to the big occasion having been CEO of two Premier League Clubs and the Irish FA, is confident the team is better than their league position suggests.
They have lost just one of their last 7 league games and in getting this far in the Vase they have beaten some very good sides including top of the table Berkhamsted and Hullbridge Sports who they despatched 5-1.
Wells, who has only been in post since September, is delighted at how well the club has done in this competition and the excitement it has generated around the club and in the town. He added this will be memorable occasion and the team will go into the game confident they can get a positive result.
