Former Woking defender Lazar Stojsavljevic is hoping to become the latest youth product to progress into the EFL via Non-League.
The 20-year-old saw his season put on hold in January when he suffered a fractured skull, just moments after scoring a dramatic winner for the Cards against AFC Fylde.
Although Stojsavljevic was offered an extended deal by the National League South club, he opted to train with Millwall over the pre-season and impressed for the Lions in a 5-0 friendly win over Dartford.
The young defender said, “ I was there (at Millwall) for one week when the season ended and now I have come back for pre-season as well so it is a good time for me to try and show what I am capable of.”
“I came in to trial for the Under 23’s but I managed to play a part in the friendly against Dartford and I felt that I had given the manager enough to show what I could do.
Stojsavljevic has relished the opportunity of training with the Championship side and believes that the experience his improved him as a player.
The former Woking youth product said, “It was great playing alongside Championship level players and it was a big step from playing in the National League.
“It would be ideal if my trial at Millwall was successful and I did sign for the youth team”
Despite leaving Woking, the defender admits that he would be more than happy to drop back into Non-League if it meant he was playing regular football.
“I am just trying to settle down at a club at the moment, I would not turn down a move to a lower football league side or even National League.
It is very competitive and it would be good to just play my football, even if I do need to move locations” said Stojsavljevic.
