Harry Wheeler is turning Maidstone United’s fortunes around
Six points from visits to Braintree and Aldershot have the Maidstone fans believing Harry Wheeler is the man that can.
It was a big four days for the former Billericay boss against two struggling sides after his first game in charge ended in defeat at home to Harrogate.
The Stones ground out the points with a 1-0 scoreline in both matches and the two goals coming from ex-England C star Blair Turgott, with last night’s strike his seventh of the season from midfield.
Now they take on a Chesterfield side in free fall at home on Saturday.
Leyton Orient are ruthless enough to be title contenders
The O’s set a new club record last night for their longest unbeaten start to a season stretching their run to 13 games.
Macauley Bonne sent himself to the top of the goalscoring charts with a hat-trick while Marvin Ekpiteta and Josh Koroma chipped in with one each to thump struggling Braintree 5-1 on their own patch.
Justin Edinburgh’s side have opened up a three-point gap at the top and with convincing wins like this against teams, in theory, that they should be beating, it only bodes well for a Football League return.
Danny Wright is key to Solihull Moors’ success
The former Cheltenham striker, who won the National League title with the Robins in 2016, is banging in the goals again for Tim Flowers’ side.
Their 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge sent them fifth as Wright struck his sixth of the season. The 34-year-old is leading the Moors frontline brilliantly, allowing the likes of Adi Yussuf and Jermaine Hylton to flourish.
Solihull have built on their momentum from avoiding relegation last season and there’s little to suggest it will end anytime soon.
Salford City mean business
It was supposed to be their toughest test of the season but Salford flexed their muscles to glide past Hartlepool 3-0.
Both sides were unbeaten in their last nine matches going into the clash with Pools just a point behind their hosts. But a ten-minute blitz in the second half saw goals from Danny Lloyd, Adam Rooney and Tom Walker to send Salford second.
Rooney grabbed the headlines in the summer for his move to the ambitious club and he’s bagged eight goals so far.
The Ammies are on the charge.
