Hakan Hayrettin has been handed a shot at redemption.
The former Grays Athletic and Thurrock boss was unable to keep Braintree Town in the National League last year, but after impressing on a caretaker basis following Bradley Quinton’s departure, the man who returned the club to Non-League‘s top flight last season, Hayrettin has landed the permanent job.
Hayrettin has overseen wins at Bromley and at home to Dover while also claiming an impressive point at high-flying Salford since being appointed as caretaker manager.
He has pulled out all the stops to impress the Braintree board, laying on coaches for fans and also discharged himself from hospital to be in the dugout from their 4-2 win over Bromley.
On Saturday, Braintree were beaten by a late goal at Aldershot, but the stand-in boss had done enough to secure the job.
Chairman Lee Harding said: “All of us on the Board have been impressed with the way that Hak and his coaches have turned our fortunes around.
“We all realise that there is still a lot of challenges ahead of us, but we are back in touch with the sides above us and it’s encouraging to see the lads working hard but also playing with a smile on their faces.”
Hayrettin added: “I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve got a busy couple of weeks to work through to get ourselves ready for the game against Solihull at home a week on Saturday. Let’s go to work!”
