Chesterfield have signed Jonathan Smith on an 18-month deal after impressing on loan from Stevenage.
The former Luton midfielder joined Martin Allen’s Spireites in September on an initial three-month loan.
But after scoring important goals in each of Chesterfield’s last three matches, including late equalisers against Sutton and Wrexham, the club have made the move permanent.
Smith won promotion from the Conference in 2013-14 with Luton, playing 145 times for the Hatters.
The 32-year-old has also turned out for Forest Green Rovers, York City and Swindon Town before signing for Stevenage in the summer of 2017.
