Jonathan Wafula has become the latest player to join Dave Frecklington’s re-building job at Northern Premier League side Matlock Town.
The 24-year-old winger, who has arrived at Causeway Lane from National League North side Boston United on a dual registration deal, previously played under Frecklington at Gainsborugh Trinity.
Wafula, who can also play as a striker, began his career with Chesterfield and made his professional debut for the Spireties in early 2013 when he came off the bench in a 3-0 victory over Northampton Town in a League Two match.
After leaving Chesterfield, the winger has gone on to play for a range of clubs including the likes of Worksop Town, Shaw Lane and Gainsborough before joining the Pilgrims in February of this year.
Despite falling to a disappointing defeat at South Shields last weekend, Matlock have been on a remarkable upward trajectory since Frecklington moved into the hotseat in September, with the Derbyshire side moving from the depths of the relegation zone to just outside of the play-off positions.
