Relegation threatened Chesterfield have been boosted by the news that defender Laurence Maguire has put pen to paper on a new two and a half year deal at the Proact Stadium.
The 21-year-old, who is the brother of England and Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, was handed his first professional deal back in the summer of 2014 and has gone on to feature 59 times for the club.
Speaking to Chesterfield’s official club website, Maguire said, “I’m delighted to get the deal over the line as I’ve been here a long time now and I was keen to stay.
“The club has a big place in my heart and I want to help Chesterfield get back to the EFL.”
Meanwhile Chief executive Graham Bean said: “We are very pleased to have secured Laurence on a new deal. This demonstrates the commitment from the club to hold on to young, upcoming players.”
Chesterfield are currently sitting in 21st position in the National League following a 0-0 draw with Barrow at the weekend.
