Who would be a manager? They are the first to get stick when the going gets tough and in an age of impatient chairmen are often under extreme pressure as soon as they sign on the dotted line!
It is because of these tricky circumstances that any manager who achieves success should be celebrated, which is why we have set aside a manager of the year award.
The award, sponsored by Fieldturf, will be handed out at our annual National Game Awards in association with Buildbase at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge on Tuesday May 14 and we want to hear who you think should get it!
Last year’s winner was John Askey after the now Port Vale boss performed heroics to guide Macclesfield into the Football League, despite battling with a tight budget and beginning pre-season with just a handful of first team players at his disposal.
This year promises to be an extremely tough choice with a number of high calibre contenders to pick form.
Tim Flowers has confounded all expectations to place Solihull Moors right in the middle of the title race, as has Simon Weaver, who is looking to power his Harrogate Town side to back-to-back promotions.
Or, how about Jim Gannon, who took Stockport County to the FA Trophy semi-finals as well as a tantalising duel at the top of the National League North with Chorley.
