Matt Warbuton leaves Stockport County

Stockport County have confirmed that their Player of the Season Matty Warbuton has left the club to join League Two side Northampton Town.
Warbuton, who netted 27 goals as County secured the National League North title this season, was widely expected to attract plenty of attention from EFL clubs, after the attacking midfielder enjoyed a seller campaign.
The 26-year-old joined Stockport County in May 2017 after netting 13 goals in 16 appearances for after a spell with Salford City.
In two seasons, Warburton, who can also play in the number ten role, scored 48 goals for County, including finding the net in win at back in November.
“We are really pleased to be able to bring Matty in,” said manager Keith Curle.
“Either myself, Simon Tracey or our scouts have watched Matty more than half a dozen times, we have done our homework on his character and we believe we are signing a player with a massive desire and hunger to do well in the EFL.
“There was a lot of interest in him but we are delighted Matty has chosen us and wants to be part of what we are looking to build.
“A big part of our recruitment this summer will be character. From the youngest professional to the most experienced, we want players who have that desire, determination and drive to keep improving and be battling things out at the right end of this division. That will be part of our culture.
“The statistics will tell you that Matty knows where the back of the net is, he can finish, he is technically a very good and skilled player, he has a quality set play delivery and has a first class attitude.
“He is a creative player who plays well in the final third and he knows his role in the team. He is a player who wants the ball and he’s what I’d describe as a very brave player. He’s got a good footballing brain and is capable of scoring goals in different ways. We need to score more goals, we need to add goals from central midfield and Matty will help with that.
“We think Matty is a really good signing for us and we are excited about working with him.”
Warbuton was part of the Stockport side who achieved promotion from the on the final day of last season at Nuneaton.
