Isthmian League Ramsgate will have a new manager at the helm when they kick off at Hadley in the FA Cup on Saturday after sacking Nick Davis.
Appointed in December 2018 as the successor to Lloyd Blackman, the former Sittingbourne manager’s contract was terminated by the Rams on Wednesday afternoon, Tuesday night’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of local rivals Herne Bay seemingly triggering his exit.
Davis, pictured, had overseen FA Cup victories over Steyning Town and Arundel to book Saturday’s trip in the FA Cup’s Second Qualifying Round but departs with his side rock bottom of the Isthmian League’s South East Division with a single point from five outings.
Ramsgate made no mention of a temporary or permanent successor for their cup clash in a statement released on the club’s website and social media channels.
The Rams said: “Ramsgate Football Club announces that Nick Davis will leave his post with immediate effect following the termination of his contract this afternoon.
“Since joining Ramsgate last year, Nick has been very popular and overall made a positive impact at the club. However, after failing to accumulate a win in the Isthmian League heading in to game week six, the club feels a change is necessary to elevate the club’s performance towards our promotion goals.”
Club director and CEO Paul Bowden-Brown added: “Nick has worked professionally and diligently to bring success to this football club, and we are disappointed and saddened that the results have not mirrored this effort.
“We as a club would like to go on record in personally thanking Nick for the way he has represented this club on and off the field and everyone wishes him and his family the very best for the future.”
Originally founded in 1886 before folding in 1924, a new club dubbed Ramsgate Athletic returned to the Southwood Stadium when it was reformed after World War 2 in 1945 and started life in the Kent League. The club retained the Athletic name until 1972.
