National League Chesterfield aren’t planning to replace chief executive officer Graham Bean after making him redundant.
The National League’s Spireites will spilt the CEO’s role among existing staff after announcing the departure of Bean, pictured, on Monday.
According to a brief club statement thanking him for his services, Bean left the Proact Stadium as a result of “ongoing cost-cutting measures”. Bean was appointed CEO in December 2018.
Chesterfield company secretary Ashley Carson also told staff that their jobs are safe on Tuesday ahead of their league outing at Wrexham.
Before the 1-0 win for the Spireites, Carson told the Derbyshire Times : “This was a cost-cutting exercise and Graham Bean’s role will be split amongst other staff.
“We have a wealth of experience and very committed staff who can perform tasks on a day-to-day basis.
“I will continue to oversee as before Graham Bean reported to me. But we have now obviously taken a level of management out.
“The club continues to lose money on a monthly basis. I have already informed the rest of the staff that their jobs are not currently under review.”
He added: “We are now progressing into our busiest time of the year with the stadium almost fully booked during December too which is great news.
“Also, Annual Audited Accounts are nearing completion and will be available very soon.”
Wembley Way
Born in Barnsley, Bean served with the South Yorkshire Police for 20 years before joining the Football Association in January 1999 and becoming the governing body’s first compliance officer.
Before investigating a number of high-profile disciplinary incidents, Bean served as chairman of the Football Supporters Association from 1996.
On leaving the FA in 2003 Bean set up his own football disciplinary consultancy service, Football Factors. Bean has also worked as an adviser to Sir Alex Ferguson.
