Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Met Police proved to be the final nail in the coffin for departed Dorchester Town boss Callum Brooks.
Already under heavy criticism following a wretched run of results that yielded just three points from their last 13 BetVictor Southern Premier South outings, Books fell on his sword after his side’s latest reverse left the Magpies second bottom and four points from safety.
The Dorset club thanked Brooks, pictured, for his services over his 36-game reign since succeeding Steve Thompson in March in a short statement confirming his departure. No mention was made of a successor with Gosport away next up on Tuesday night.
The Magpies said: “Dorchester Town Football Club can confirm that it has parted company with first-team manager Callum Brooks this evening.
“We would like to put on record our thanks to Callum for his services to the club over the last nine months and wish him all the best for the future.”
Former New Milton and Hamworthy United boss Brooks thanked fans and the club for the opportunity and support they’d given him in his own statement on Twitter.
The son of former Cherries star Shaun Brooks, he said: “Following a meeting with [chairman] Scott Symes after today’s game I have resigned from my position as the manager of Dorchester Town FC.
“I am immensely proud of the work that was carried out during the final 10 games of last season which resulted in us achieving safety with a game to spare.
“However, this season has been beyond disappointing. We worked relentlessly trying to improve things, but it didn’t happen. It’s a results-based business and ours were far from good enough.
“I managed the club with full commitment, honesty and integrity and I am grateful for the opportunity that I was given.
“To the DTFC supporters, thank you for all your support. I desperately wanted to deliver better results for you all. I wish the club and all the hard-working people associated with it nothing but success. Cal.”
