SIMON RUSSELL has joined Gainsborough Trinity after having his Alfreton Town contract and registration cancelled.
The 27-year-old winger joined the Reds from their Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Lincoln City at the start of the season but was unable to secure himself a regular starting spot in Nicky Law’s line up.
He leaves the Impact Arena having made nine Conference Premier starts and six appearances from the bench.
A statement on the Alfreton Town website said: “The club thank Simon for his efforts and wish him all the very best for the future.”
His new manager, Trinity boss Steve Housham told This Is Lincolnshire: “Simon was with us during pre-season, but we had so many midfielders at the club then we could not offer him a deal at the time.
“We have kept tabs on the player and we are delighted to finally bring him to the club. He is a very busy midfield player who likes to get on the ball. He has lots of energy which will suit us in the middle of the park and he is able to play for us in the FA Trophy.”
