AS first impressions go, Southport could not have asked for a better start to the season, as they blitzed Boston United to register an emphatic opening day win.
After relegation last campaign, the Sandgrounders have assembled a squad from scratch and it was their new captain, Steven Schumacher, who put them on their way, sending a 25-yard free-kick into the top right of the goal before going off injured.
By then, Liam Martin had increased the home team’s lead, capitalising on a mixup between Boston goalkeeper George Willis and his defence.
