ASHFORD United’s return to this level didn’t end as they would have hoped after losing by the odd goal to Carshalton Athletic.
Against a side fancied for the league, the hosts more than held their own despite missing some key players, in a game that remained without a goal until the cusp of the interval.
But the Robins’ class came true when it mattered most, Brendan Murphy- McVey getting the only goal on the stroke of half-time.
Pat Kingwell saw red for the hosts late on, as their introduction ended in a loss.
